AWT has been crafting some trailer decks. They look so good, we had to share it with you (yep, we’re proud of our work).
The deck is like the keel of a ship: it is the dimensional and structural center point. It’s the frame of a house. It does everything: the wiring runs across it, the steel frame attaches to it, the bed sits on it. it has to be able to withstand anything: the load in the upper shelves, handle safely and effectively the loads, the cornering stresses, bad bumps on the road. Has to put up with the weather. IF the deck fails, it can push failure points onto any number of other things.
You can see the underside here, nice and strong. We’ve added additional wood at stress points to stiffen the base, basically let the suspension do all the bouncing
It had to be light and had to be thin. It has to interlock with so many different pieces while still being smooth and flat and comfortable.
Look at the size of the cellar! It’s 18” across and it’ll be about 3 cubic feet of storage. Good for approximately 4 six-packs.
We signed the deck because that’s the heart of the thing.
